A Willie Nelson concert for networking…Really?

Ok, I’m going to blow a lot of people who know me out of the water with this one.

My ticket and a picture for proof!

I really went to a Willie Nelson concert this week. I’m not a country/western fan in any way as a matter of fact I go out of my way to tell people that I can’t stand it.

However, on Weds morning my good friend Liora called to say that her boyfriend had tickets and did I want to go? Of course I said yes. Because even though I don’t like country music, Willie Nelson has a special place in my heart because my grandmother and I used to listen to it together when I was a kid. Now that she’s not with us anymore anything that helps me feel connected to her is a winning proposition in my book.

So off I went to join my friends for the Willie event.

Me, Mark Victor Hansen (Mega events & Chicken Soup for the Soul),
Liora Mendeloff (in the hat), Matthew Ferry
(of the Mike Ferry Real Estate coaching clan),
Maria and Lynn Rose (singer and founder of the WOW Factor.)

And it was actually fun! Not only that, but I met up with some people I hadn’t seen in awhile and did some great networking in the process.

During all the songs that sound the same, Matthew and I talked a lot about just saying YES when the world invites you into a new opportunity. I’m really glad I said yes (cause there were a lot of reasons I almost said no like, “I don’t have time, I’ll just be getting off a teleclass, I won’t have time to eat dinner, I don’t really like C/W music”) but by saying YES I was in the right place at the right time to meet the right people …and have some fun in the process.

So what are YOU saying no to that should be a YES?

Hi Melanie, Delighted to see this post about Willie Nelson. I don’t mind admitting I love classical country music and also classical music…George Jones, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and of course Willie Nelson.

I acquired the taste as a young twenty-something when driving cross-country many times. My first car didn’t have a tape player and all the radio stations played country music. (I think I felt lucky to have an AM/FM radio.)

And once when I was in Nashville on a business trip, a bunch of us went to the Opry. Awesome!

I like the lyrics. There’s a song “Hank Williams you wrote my life” and it is so true.

    Hi Cathy,

I guess I’m always a bit of perplexing with my preferences. Even though I’m quite adamant in my distaste for listening to country music I also enjoy Johnny Cash. Don’t ask me why…I couldn’t say.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and hopefully you now have Satellite Radio (or at least an MP3 hookup) in your car so you always have access to the best music! =-)

    Melanie
