The 3 Biggest Distractions Plaguing Your Progress
As an entrepreneur or visionary chances are you have an amazing vision for what you want to create in your life. But somewhere between the plan and what you do today…you get distracted!
Distractions keep you from being able to focus on the right things at the right time.
Some distractions can’t be helped. But most distractions happen because we’ve allowed yourselves to let a bad habit or poor boundaries around our time to exist.
Here are three of the biggest distractions that affect your ability to achieve your goals…do you see yourself doing any of these?
Bright Shiny Objects (BSO)
As an entrepreneur, BSO’s are like the candy. We see them, we want them, we get them, we consume them and then they consume us. BSOs are highly intoxicating because they LOOK so exciting and perfect on the outside…but inside they are really just a distraction and bad for our bottom line.
BSO’s come in all types of packages…
A colleague or friend how invites you into a money-making opportunities that turns out to be a complete waste of time.
New ideas that just “show up” in your mind that cost you a lot of time and energy to produce but only generate minuscule income.
And BSO’s can even be your constant temptation to buy more training if you are investing simply to feel excited or you don’t implement what you are learning.
Other People’s Emergencies
In the last 30 days I’ve turned down three tele-summit spots. Now that might sound crazy when everyone knows that being invited to speak is a great opportunity to market and sell your stuff. But when they need my stuff tomorrow and its three weeks before they start, I already know that I’m in for a low payoff.
Other people’s emergencies are not your problem. But when you let other people dictate where your time and energy goes, their issues become your distraction – and you don’t focus on what YOUR priorities are That’s why many service providers get stuck “in the weeds” of their business and don’t have the time or energy to focus on the bigger, more impactful opportunities.
Multiple Train Syndrome
Imagine how productive you are when you try to write a blog post, answer the phone, AND check your emails all at the same time. Each of those tasks takes three times longer than they should because you are diverting your attention. But here is where the BIGGEST issue with multi-tasking lies – when you have multiple projects you are trying to launch all at once.
In the beginning we always believe that we can accomplish miracles – it’s realistic that you can write that book, create your new product, speak at three events, upgrade your membership site software AND keep all your marketing in motion, right?
Wrong. Well at least not the way you have been trying to do it.
If you want multiple trains in motion you have to have automation, delegation and a solid plan!
