How to Leverage the Law of Un-attachment to Unleash Your Greatness
In 1991 I learned to set goals and do something called “visioning.” For many years I struggled with this process wondering why sometimes my goals worked…and other times I missed the mark greatly.
Over the years of coaching entrepreneurs on creating six and seven figure businesses, I’ve noticed they also have struggled with the traditional principles of setting and achieving their goals.
That’s because one element had been missing. It’s called The Law of Un-Attachment and when you discover how to unleash it in your own life, you’ll realize how this whole manifestation, goal setting and visioning process REALLY works.
Let’s first start with understanding how the Law of Un-attachment works. I put together this quick video cause it was just too hard to explain in works.
Now that you get the basic idea on the Law of Un-Attachment, here is how to apply it to your goal setting.
When you establish goals and dreams, it’s the feeling state that you want. Think about it. When you say you want a million dollars – is it really the money? Or the FEELING it creates to have the freedom to invest that money in experiences?
It’s absolutely the second one.
So here is how to Unleash the Law of Unattachment. Stick with me cause this is a tricky one.
Why many of us “fail” in our pursuit of goals is because we’ve gotten very attached to what we think our success should look like.
It happens with relationships, acquiring possessions, launching programs, hiring people, friendships, business deals, wealth building, etc.
If we get attached to HOW we get it or what it LOOKS like when we get there, you may be very disappointed.
However, if by using the Law of Unattachment we get clear on what we want success to FEEL like, then we will be guided to create an outcome in alignment with what’s truly important to you.
I’ll cover what happens when you create something that is NOT in alignment in a few days. But for now…tell me what your experience is around the Law of Unattachment and how it has shown up in your life in the comments below.

Great Blog Melanie!
I’ve struggled with that same exact issue. And I have experienced what I thought at the moment, “Things falling apart!” But as you’ve so accurately called it, “Falling away” and the falling away was the best thing that could have happened, but I was too close to issue to see that at the time. It took time and perspective to realize that the falling away was the best action to re-align to my greater vision and values.
Thank you for sharing!
Jim
Jim, so great to hear from you and yes….letting go, struggling, falling away.
It’s all about making room for something better. Too bad we can’t have that hindsight as foresight while we go through it! =-)

Hey Melanie,
This is a really different way to approach life from what we’re usually taught. I know you tried to tell me this the other day in coaching but this blog post really pulled it together for me. The challenge for me is I am a logical thinker and mainly in my head versus heart. I always tended to visualize “things” and images not so much feelings, thinking they weren’t that important. Time for me to really get in touch with my feelings and practice. Greg’s call the other week about identifying “markers” in my life has helped with that – looking at events that really touched me.
Thanks for the great post!

Robert, I think finding the balance between how our vision feels and the old paradigm of not personalizing our business has confused many a great entrepreneur. Thanks for sharing your own experience around this…you are a rock star already. The world just hasn’t seen enough of you yet. =-)
So glad you wrote/spoke about this, Mel. When I realize all the wonderful, healing, stretching surprises the Universe has brought me, it makes me realize that I don’t want to put all my reliance on my imagination to tell me what I want, what’s for my highest good. There is so much I want to draw to me that I don’t even know about yet!
The nugget in the whole post Melanie is this powerful sentence right here:
“Why many of us “fail” in our pursuit of goals is because we’ve gotten very attached to what we think our success should look like.”
That attachment can be such a strong force that we may note even recognize when it’s time to course correct because the goal has changed.
Now the important factor in the equation is how to align the ‘feeling’ you mention to the vision of the goal. It’s in the action of ‘how to keep it in front of you’ that is key.
Look forward to the next post.
Tammy & Rhonda…
Your comments are invaluable. Yes I agree how to align the feeling and keeping it in front of you can be the challenge. I use a lot of visual reminders and my Morning Power Formula helps too.
Love the input…thanks so much for sharing it.
Excellent Melanie! Thanks for this valuable reminder and the incredible shifts you created in my mindset and visioning with what you taught here and in the FastTrack program.
The vision I have for different aspects of my life certainly came to life when I took your advice and applied much more feeling to the end result vs focusing on the goal itself. Subtle difference but huge shift.
Thanks again!
