Great ideas Peter on how to handle creative thinking. It's tough for some people to know what to do with the avalanche of good ideas when you are balancing them against your high payoff activities!

Sorry for the delay in getting them posted, your post got stuck in a ton of spam!

Stay connected and keep sharing!

Warmly,

Melanie

I've found that some of the key elements in successful creative thinking are:

- Keep a notebook to record your ideas
- Make a list to meet your challenges, and don't filter out the impractical!
- Make the list as long as time allows, and set goals for the number of ideas beyond what you think you're capable of
- Free-associate; write down idea after idea. The most obvious ideas will be the first ones but some problems require a decidedly "un-obvious" approach.
- Look for ideas in unrelated areas, role play the problem as if you were a character from history. Read the newspaper and imagine solving the problems people face day to day.
- If you get frustrated then walk away and give it a rest. Come back when you feel clear and fresh again.
- See if you can combine ideas.
- In the end, narrow down your best ideas using criteria appropriate to the challenge.
