My Top 5 Recommendations on Staying Focused (Part Two)

In my last post, I talked about the compelling why and the importance for knowing your priorities. (Read the article.) Let’s get into the last 3 recommendations.

Focus Plan

A focus plan is a clearly defined roadmap to help you achieve your lifestyle and revenue goals. The key to a focus plan is understanding that it works very much like a pilot charting a course to travel between Los Angeles and New York. The pilot understands it may spend quite a bit of time off-course but what matters is getting to the destination. The pilot doesn’t give up because the plan is off course, she just redirects the plane to get back on track.

As entrepreneurs, we must get clear about what we want our lifestyle to be and become more flexible about how we get there. For instance, when I originally set my mind to becoming a 7-figure business owner my 7 figure strategy looked very different then than it does today. It also took longer because I had to adjust my strategies along the way. At that time I didn’t know I would offer the Virtual Team Building Telebootcamp or the Fast-Track to 6 & 7 Figure Lifestyle Business. I just knew I would achieve the goal and the right strategies would reveal themselves along the way.

Accountability

One of the benefits of being in a Success Connections coaching program is being held accountable to your plan. Accountability is a tricky thing. Most entrepreneurs are like teenagers – they want their independence to do what they want. But they don’t choose what is good for them. They play it safe, waste precious time spinning in circles and burn through their cash on a lot of “learning” that doesn’t pay off.

Why? Because left to our own devices we will do what is comfortable versus what is high payoff. That’s where a coach becomes vital to staying focused. Besides helping you identify what is a high payoff priority, your coach supports you in staying on track and working through the obstacles that get in your way.

If you think you can’t afford a coach for accountability, ask yourself if you can afford not to. How many costly mistakes are you making along the way? In the long run, it’s cheaper to invest in the right coach than it is to go it alone.

Make Time to Gain Time

Do you find yourself neglecting “working on the business” because you are so busy “working in the business?” A common trap that has to be handled if you want to achieve the bigger pay off.

The trick is that spending an hour a week planning will actually save you 5 – 10 hours a week in unnecessary tasks. For instance, you go to Home Depot with the idea you want to put up shelves. You look at the shelves, pick the ones you want, and head home. You get home and realize they won’t fit, you don’t have any screws and now you have to go back.

If you had measured first and mapped out a plan, you would have known what size shelves to get and remembered the screws. 15 minutes would have saved you 90 minutes of wasted time.
